Brazilian forward Neymar is reportedly keen on returning to Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish journalist Xavier Valls on Onze, Neymar is keen on returning to Barcelona in the summer transfer window. Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, for his part, is in favour of bringing the Paris Saint-Germain forward back to Camp Nou ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Neymar has continued to prove his credentials as one of the best players in the world since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in a world-record €222 million move. But the 30-year-old has been beset by a spate of fitness issues, restricting him to nearly half the games played by PSG in the last five years.

The Brazilian international still has a superb record for PSG, amassing 100 goals and 60 assists in 144 appearances thus far. But Neymar faces an uncertain future at Parc des Princes, with Les Parisiens reportedly ready to cash in on him in the summer transfer window. And the player wants to return to Barcelona if forced out of PSG.

Barcelona could do with a player of Neymar’s quality, considering Ousmane Dembele is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract. With the French international yet to commit his long-term future to Barcelona, the Blaugrana will need to invest in a world-class wide-attacker.

In addition, Barcelona’s pursuit of Robert Lewandowski has run into troubled waters, with Bayern Munich rejecting their latest bid for the Polish international. Furthermore, Memphis Depay faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou, while Raphinha is closer to joining Chelsea despite recent reports pointing to a possible hijack from Barcelona.

Neymar is thus a viable target for Barcelona, with the Brazilian forward keen on returning to Camp Nou. But while manager Xavi Hernandez is in favour of a deal, Barcelona might not be able to afford him, even if their economic levers get activated.

So Neymar might have to seek alternative solutions to clarify his future in the summer transfer window if he leaves PSG. The 30-year-old is the subject of interest from Newcastle United, but he is hesitant to join the Magpies. Meanwhile, Neymar might continue to harbour hopes of returning to Barcelona, and it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants mount a move for him.
