Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly open to selling Real Madrid target Raheem Sterling to Chelsea this summer.

According to a report by ESPN, Chelsea’s hopes of signing Raheem Sterling in the summer transfer window will have risen, with Manchester City ready to sell him to the Blues. The English forward is also a target for several clubs outside England, including Real Madrid.

Raheem Sterling seems to have played his last match for Manchester City, even though he has been one of the top scorers for the Citizens under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola. But the 27-year-old has seen his stature reduce in the last couple of seasons. While he has featured regularly for Manchester City, Guardiola has not handed him starts in the most important games.

The English international has raked in 131 goals and 95 assists in 339 appearances thus far for Manchester City. But the Premier League champions will likely cash in on Sterling in the summer transfer window as he will enter the final year of his contract this week, and talks over a renewal have barely progressed. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid and Chelsea.

Real Madrid’s interest in Sterling is not serious, although they might have to consider signing him amid rising uncertainties surrounding the future of Marco Asensio. The Spaniard’s departure will leave Carlo Ancelotti short of quality wide-attacking options, making Sterling a viable target for Real Madrid.

But Real Madrid will have to fend off stiff competition from Chelsea to sign Sterling from Manchester City. The Blues seem to be leading the race to sign the 27-year-old, with owner Todd Boehly personally overseeing the operation to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Talks to sign Sterling are already underway, with the Manchester City forward keen on joining Chelsea. And according to ESPN, the reigning Premier League champions are open to selling Sterling to Chelsea, even though they prefer to offload him to a foreign club like Real Madrid.
