Arsenal made a new £35 million bid for Lisandro Martinez, but Ajax want more money to part with the Argentine defender, who is also a target for Manchester United.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have made an improved offer to Ajax for top defensive target Lisandro Martinez. However, Ajax reportedly continue to hold out for a bigger fee for the Arsenal and Manchester United target.

Arsenal are making huge strides in the transfer window. After a period of silence in the market, the Gunners have ramped up their efforts to bring in preferred players, with four deals already agreed on.

Sao Paolo youngster Marquinhos was the first to arrive, followed by Porto attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira. Arsenal then announced the arrival of goalkeeper Matt Turner and news of their agreement to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City for £45 million broke out this past weekend.

Arsenal remain in the hunt for Leeds United star Raphinha and Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, with the Argentine emerging as Mikel Arteta’s top defensive target in this window. However, the Gunners already had a bid rejected a few weeks ago and had been working on making an improved offer.

The Gunners have encountered competition from Manchester United for Martinez. The Red Devils switched their attention to the Argentine after failing in their efforts to sign Jurrien Timber. However, Arsenal are ahead in the race for Martinez.

The Gunners made a new, improved offer worth £35 million for Martinez. However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch giants want more money for the Argentine international and are demanding a sum of £43 million (€50 million).

Arsenal are not backing out of the deal anytime soon, as the new offer is proof of their willingness to do everything to sign the defender. The back-to-back bids may also indicate the player could also be open to a move and that the Gunners are aware of this.

Having already completed four signings this summer, Arsenal are intent on getting the deal for Martinez over the line next. And, there is a growing confidence Arsenal will come back with yet another improved offer if Ajax reject their latest bid as they look to strike an agreement for the 24-year-old.
