Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of sealing the deal to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma.

According to a report from The Times, Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the capture of Yves Bissouma. The north Londoners have reached a £25 million agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion over the in-demand midfielder. Bissouma is expected to sign a five-year deal at Spurs and may soon complete his medical.

The Malian international is on course to becoming Spurs’ third signing of the new season. He will follow the footsteps of goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic, who had earlier joined Tottenham on a free transfer from Inter Milan.

The midfield department has been an issue for Tottenham for quite some time now. Upon his arrival at the Premier League club, Antonio Conte had pleaded with them to bring in some real quality in the middle of the park and find upgrades for players such as Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp.

Tottenham did rope in Rodrigo Bentancur in January. But with the Uruguayan international and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg being the only reliable options in the second line of press, Conte was once again pressing for another midfielder to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.

That is where Yves Bissouma comes into the fray. Regarded as one of the most gifted players in the Brighton ranks, the Malian international has established himself as one of the finest in the Premier League in recent years. He can offer an impressive work ethic in the middle and is equipped with the physical traits to thrive in the English top flight.

From a tactical perspective, Bissouma could be an excellent midfield partner for both Hojbjerg and Bentancur. He can complement the two hard-working midfielders and add some real dynamism in the middle of the park for Tottenham.

Tottenham deserve credit for taking advantage of the market opportunity for Bissouma, who is in the final year of his contract, and signing the Brighton starlet for just £25 million. He has the quality to become an asset for the club in the long run and could thus prove to be a bargain in the years to come.

Signing Bissouma might not be the end of the road for Spurs, though, as the Lilywhites are also weighing up a move for a creative midfielder. Tottenham have been recently handed a boost in their pursuit of Christian Eriksen, although the north Londoners have several other alternatives in the market.
