Manchester United are reportedly plotting a surprise summer move for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are considering a surprise move for wantaway Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The former Arsenal star is eager to leave Anfield this summer after falling down the pecking order at the club.

A Southampton youth product, Oxlade-Chamberlain rose to prominence at Arsenal as he made 198 appearances for them over a six-year period between 2011 and 2017. He moved to Liverpool in a £34 million move, but after a solid year with the Reds, a cruciate ligament injury has derailed his career.

Oxlade-Chamberlain could make just four appearances across competitions in the 2018/19 season and though he played 30 Premier League matches from Liverpool the following season, 13 of them came from the bench. The arrival of Naby Keita and Fabinho further limited Oxlade-Chamberlain’s game time.

Over the last two seasons, he has played just 46 matches for the Reds and now seems to be on his way out of the club. The 28-year-old has just a year remaining on his Liverpool contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side, and this summer seems the best time to part ways for both parties.

Manchester United have emerged as potential suitors. The report claims the Red Devils, who are in the market for a central midfield signing are hoping that Liverpool will agree to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain for a £10 million fee.

Manchester United are set to lose as many as four midfielders and need serious reinforcements in the department this summer. Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are all set to leave, and Manchester United are thus eager to add depth in midfield.

They are also linked with a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder played under ten Hag at Ajax and the new Manchester United manager is eager for a reunion. The Blaugrana could be forced to sell De Jong as they need to free up their wage bill to add new signings to their roster.

Along with Manchester United, Aston Villa and West Ham United have also shown interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was linked with a January exit from Liverpool as well. Southampton are also reportedly interested in a reunion but they are considering their approach given the midfielder’s injury record.
