Barcelona will reportedly provide stiff competition to Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Dodo from Shakhtar Donetsk this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Dodo is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have joined Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of the Brazilian defender.

Domilson Cordeiro dos Santos, better known as Dodo, spent his formative years in Brazil before earning a big move to Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2018. And the 23-year-old has made significant progress in the last four years, finding a haven at the Ukrainian club like many Brazilians before him.

Dodo has made 97 appearances thus far for Shakhtar Donetsk, chipping in with five goals and 17 assists. The Brazilian defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Tottenham, setting their sights on him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the waning performance levels of Dani Carvajal in the last few years. Fitness issues have hampered the veteran Spanish defender, and with Alvaro Odriozola’s Real Madrid future up in the air, Los Blancos will need to invest in a right-back in the summer. But the Spanish giants face stiff competition from Barcelona in the race to sign the 23-year-old.

Barcelona will likely delve into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window as Dani Alves is in the twilight of his glittering career. At the same time, Sergino Dest faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou, with Barcelona reportedly looking to replace him with Cesar Azpilicueta this summer.

As for Tottenham, Antonio Conte wants a new right wing-back, as Emerson Royal has made no impression whatsoever since arriving from Barcelona last summer. And while Matt Doherty regained some form before picking up a season-ending injury, his consistency remains questionable.

The difficult situation in Ukraine means Dodo will likely leave Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can beat Real Madrid and Tottenham to his signature after emerging in the race to sign the Brazilian defender.
