La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing 23-year-old Brazilian defender Dodo in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Dodo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible summer transfer window. The Spanish giants are keen on bolstering Carlo Ancelotti’s right-back options ahead of the 2022/23 season following Dani Carvajal’s sub-par display against Paris Saint-Germain.

Domilson Cordeiro dos Santos, better known as Dodo, spent his formative years in Brazil and made his first-team bow at Coritiba. But since joining Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2018, the 23-year-old has made significant progress. Like many Brazilian players before him, the youngster has found a safe haven at the Ukrainian club.

To date, Dodo has made 97 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk, chipping in with five goals and 17 assists in the process. The 23-year-old Brazilian defender’s progress in the last few years has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

Real Madrid might have to invest in a right-back in the summer transfer window as Dani Carvajal has suffered a significant dip in form and fitness levels in the past year. The Spanish international’s latest underwhelming performance came in the recent clash in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 with Paris Saint-Germain.

Carvajal’s performance has prompted Real Madrid to scour the transfer market for a right-back, with recent reports claiming that Noussair Mazraoui is the subject of interest from Los Blancos. And Dodo is also a viable target for Real Madrid, who consider him young and talented enough to wear the white jersey.

In addition to Dodo, Reece James and Nordi Mukiele have also popped up on Real Madrid’s radar as they begin to consider the possibility of signing a right-back seriously. The Spanish giants are not ruling out keeping hold of Alvaro Odriozola either following the Spaniard’s impressive displays during his ongoing loan spell at Fiorentina this season.

According to the report, retaining the services of Odriozola is the most feasible option for Real Madrid. But Real Madrid might have to enter the market for a right-back if Odriozola pushes for a summer departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, bringing Dodo into the picture.
