After drawn-out negotiations, Real Madrid have reached an agreement with AS Monaco for Aurelien Tchouameni over a deal that could rise to €100 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are on the verge of completing their second transfer of the summer, after reaching an agreement to sign French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco.

Tchouameni has developed into one of the most exciting all-round midfielders in Europe since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. A mainstay for the Principality outfit, the 22-year-old has carved out a place for himself in the French national team as well and played a key role in their UEFA Nations League triumph last year.

Tchouameni’s progress over the past couple of seasons has not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, among others, all being linked with the youngster at some point in the recent past. However, Real Madrid have been the midfielder’s most ardent suitors for quite some time now and have managed to get the deal over the line.

Real Madrid had been negotiating with Monaco over the transfer fee for Tchouameni, who had his heart set on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. And as per the update from Ronamo, the Spanish and European champions have now finalised the terms of the deal with the Ligue 1 outfit.

According to the deal agreed, Tchouameni will join Real Madrid this summer in a deal worth an initial €80 million fee, which could eventually rise to €100 million, including add-ons. It will see the 22-year-old become one of the most expensive acquisitions in the history of Real Madrid, along with the likes of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The update from Fabrizio Romano also claims that personal terms with the player have already been agreed, with Tchouameni poised to sign a five-year contract with Los Blancos until the summer of 2027. With everything tied up, an announcement of the transfer could be imminent.

Tchouameni will become Real Madrid’s second signing of the summer after the club confirmed the acquisition of Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea in a Bosman transfer earlier this month. Having missed out on the capture of Kylian Mbappe, Los Blancos put their full efforts to get the deal for Tchouameni across the line without any hiccups.

With the move all but complete, they will now likely shift their focus towards other targets. A new centre-forward to cover for Karim Benzema could be brought in, while a new left-back could also be on the agenda as Carlo Ancelotti looks to bolster his squad to mount a successful defence of their La Liga and Champions League titles.
