Alexis Sanchez has reportedly offered himself to Barcelona, who might not take the chance to re-sign the 33-year-old forward from Serie A club Inter Milan.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona will have the chance to re-sign Alexis Sanchez in the summer transfer window. The 33-year-old forward wants to return to Camp Nou, but the Blaugrana will not take up the opportunity to re-sign him.

Alexis Sanchez has endured a topsy turvy career since arriving in Europe by joining Udinese in 2006. The Chilean international, who has experienced success at the international level by winning multiple Copa America titles, had made his mark at Udinese, Barcelona and Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger deriving the best out of him during his time with the Gunners.

But Sanchez’s career has been on a downward slope since he joined Manchester United in January 2018. After 18 months of struggle, the 33-year-old moved to Inter Milan on loan for the 2019/20 season before completing a permanent transfer in August 2020. But after an impressive loan stint, Sanchez has struggled to perform consistently for the Serie A giants.

The veteran forward was a bit-part player this past season and managed nine goals and five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. But Sanchez’s spell with Inter Milan seems to be ending, and he has offered himself to former club Barcelona over a possible summer move.

Barcelona will likely invest in a wide-attacker in the summer transfer window as Ousmane Dembele is edging closer to departing from Camp Nou as a free agent. To that end, several players have popped up on Barcelona’s radar, with Raphinha reportedly their priority target to replace Dembele.

But Leeds United’s price tag is putting a spanner in the works for Barcelona, who might need to identify cost-effective alternatives for the Brazilian international. To that end, Sanchez might be a viable target for Barcelona, with the 33-year-old already well-versed with the challenges at the Catalan club.

In addition to Sanchez, Angel Di Maria has also offered himself to Barcelona. But Barcelona will not take up the opportunity to re-sign Sanchez or move for Di Maria. One would imagine that a move for either veteran forward might only materialise if signing Raphinha is beyond the Catalan club’s means.
