Former Real Madrid forward Angel Di Maria has reportedly offered his services to Barcelona, as his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires next month.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Paris Saint-Germain superstar Angel Di Maria, who is set to become a free agent this summer, has offered himself to La Liga giants Barcelona.

Di Maria will bring an end to his seven-year association with PSG next month when his contract with the Ligue 1 champions expires. Having arrived from Manchester United in 2015, the 34-year-old Argentine achieved a lot of success in the French capital club, notching up 93 goals in 295 appearances, winning five league titles and several other domestic honours.

PSG had the option of extending Di Maria’s contract by another twelve months. But the two parties have decided to part ways in the summer, with the Argentine being given a farewell this past weekend when PSG played FC Metz. Set to become a free agent, the former Real Madrid superstar has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

And, it is now being claimed that Di Maria’s services have been offered to Barcelona by his agents as the Argentine harbours hopes of playing for the Catalan giants. The report states that this is not the first time that the 34-year-old attacker has offered himself to the Blaugrana, having done so in the summer of 2017 when Neymar had left for PSG.

A move did not materialise back then, but Di Maria has again emerged as an option for Barcelona, with the winger keen on plying his trade at Camp Nou. The Catalans need a new wide player heading into the summer as Ousmane Dembele looks certain to depart as a free agent next month.

With Barcelona unlikely to sign Adama Traore on a permanent deal either, there will be vacancies on the right flank, which a player of Di Maria’s proven pedigree can fill. However, as per the report, the Blaugrana do not intend to sign the soon-to-be free agent in the summer to bolster their frontline.

It is claimed that the Catalans are already targeting several players in their thirties, such as Robert Lewandowski, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso and do not wish to have a squad filled with older players. Furthermore, the Blaugrana have identified Leeds United and Brazil winger Raphinha as their primary target to replace Dembele.

So, despite Di Maria’s availability on a free transfer and his willingness to play for Barcelona, a summer transfer to Camp Nou seems like an unlikely prospect.
