Newcastle United will reportedly provide stiff competition to Barcelona and Arsenal in the race to sign Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Alvaro Morata is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish striker is also a target for Barcelona and Arsenal, with a summer departure from Atletico Madrid beckoning him.

Alvaro Morata is a curious case of a footballer who has not necessarily excelled in his professional career yet finds himself at some of the best clubs in Europe. The 29-year-old has represented Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea while currently being in his second stint with Juventus.

2021/22 was a typical Alvaro Morata campaign, as he managed only 12 goals and nine assists in 48 appearances. Despite that, Juventus will look to sign the Spanish international permanently in the summer transfer window if they manage to negotiate the price tag to their liking. At the same time, Morata has popped up on the radars of Barcelona, Arsenal, and Newcastle United.

Barcelona attempted to sign Morata in the January transfer window before securing the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, But the Catalan giants remain in the hunt for the former Real Madrid striker, who wants to move to Camp Nou this summer. And with Martin Braithwaite on the exit trail at FC Barcelona, Morata could be a superb replacement.

As for Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette’s departure as a free agent will leave the Gunners short of quality options in the final third. While Eddie Nketiah looks set to extend his stay with Arsenal, the north Londoners will need to sign a new striker to compete with the youngster, making Morata a viable target. And recent reports have claimed that Morata is closing in on returning to London by joining Arsenal.

But Barcelona and the Gunners will have to stave off stiff competition from Newcastle United to land the 29-year-old. With Chris Wood failing to make an impression since arriving from Burnley and Callum Wilson struggling with fitness issues, Morata is the ideal candidate to bolster Newcastle’s attacking unit.

In addition to Barcelona, Arsenal and Newcastle United, Morata is a target for Bayern Munich, with Juventus also keen on securing his services permanently. So the Spanish international will likely leave Atletico Madrid, but it remains unclear where he will end up next.
