Barcelona will reportedly look to sign Mohamed Salah in a Bosman move in 2023 if he has not committed his future to Liverpool by then.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Liverpool will need to be decisive about their decision on Mohamed Salah’s contract renewal in the coming months. The Egyptian forward is prepared to walk away from Anfield as a free agent in the summer transfer window of 2023, with Barcelona closely monitoring his situation.

Mohamed Salah has carved a lasting legacy for himself at Liverpool by playing a leading role in their recent success-laden campaigns. The 29-year-old has often scored goals for fun, and in the 2021/22 season, he ended the term as the player with the most goals and assists in the Premier League.

Salah ended a brilliant 2021/22 campaign with 31 goals and 16 assists in 51 outings for Liverpool. But the Reds are in a spot of bother over the Egyptian forward’s long-term future, with his contract set to run out next year. Such a situation has captured the attention of some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Ousmane Dembele. It seemed for some time that Barcelona might succeed in securing the future of the French international, but things have taken a turn for the worse in the last few weeks.

Dembele recently rejected a contract offer from Barcelona and seems likely to move to the Premier League by joining Chelsea. The Blaugrana will thus need to identify options to replace the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, with Raphinha one of their priority targets. And Liverpool talisman Salah is also a candidate worth considering, although a move might only materialise next year.

Recent reports have claimed that Liverpool will likely tie Salah down to a new contract that will run until June 30, 2026. But Salah’s situation at Anfield remains highly uncertain, which has left Barcelona considering a Bosman move for next year’s summer transfer window.

But Barcelona might have an uphill task in convincing Salah to move to Camp Nou, with recent reports suggesting he wants to remain in the Premier League if he leaves Liverpool. However, the Reds will be scrambling to tie Salah down to a new contract in the coming months.
