Mohamed Salah is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract with Liverpool despite being in contact with Paris Saint-Germain.

According to a report by French outlet But! Football Club, Mohamed Salah is prepared to sign a contract worth less than his original demands to extend his stay with Liverpool. The Egyptian wing-wizard is in contact with PSG, but he will unlikely move to Parc des Princes in the summer transfer window.

Mohamed Salah has come leaps and bounds since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in July 2017. The 29-year-old has surpassed expectations at Anfield, establishing himself as one of the best players in Europe in the last half a decade while guiding the Reds to numerous top honours, including the UEFA Champions League and the elusive Premier League title.

Salah has enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 campaign, amassing 30 goals and 14 assists in 49 outings for Liverpool thus far. And while the Egyptian forward has blown hot and cold in the second half of the season, he could still end the term as the top scorer and assister in the Premier League. But Salah’s contract situation has left Liverpool in a spot of bother while capturing the attention of several European bigwigs, including PSG.

The interest from PSG dates back to the early days of the 2021/22 season, with the eagerness to sign the Liverpool forward stemming from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman is heavily linked with Real Madrid, who could sign him in a Bosman move in July.

Recent reports have also claimed that PSG might have ended their hopes of keeping hold of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner beyond the summer transfer window. And while there are suggestions that PSG might still have a chance of retaining Mbappe’s services, they need to keep their options open.

Salah is thus a viable target for Les Parisiens, who have initiated contact with the Liverpool forward’s entourage. But despite PSG’s attempts to land Salah, the 29-year-old seems committed to Liverpool and will soon sign a new long-term contract that will run until June 30, 2026.

The new contract does not meet Salah’s demands, but he is ready to pledge his future to Liverpool. But the Reds could still lose one of their start attackers, with PSG reportedly the favourite to secure the services of Sadio Mane. As for Salah, the Egyptian forward is poised to sign a new contract with Liverpool.
