Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly identified Mohamed Salah as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe next season.

A recent report from Le10Sport has offered an interesting update on Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer policy. The French giants are gearing up for life without Kylian Mbappe next season and have identified Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah as a potential replacement.

PSG’s primary replacement option for Mbappe is Erling Haaland. But should the Borussia Dortmund superstar decline the opportunity to move to Paris, especially amid interest from Manchester City, they are expected to turn their attention towards the Liverpool winger, who is enjoying a phenomenal campaign so far.

In just 11 appearances, Salah has scored 12 goals while registering four assists. He recently starred in the hard-fought win over Atletico Madrid, in the UEFA Champions League, scoring a brace for Liverpool in front of a packed crowd at Wanda Metropolitano.

The Egyptian is being widely regarded as the most in-form player in the Premier League. And he does face an uncertain future at Anfield, with his current Liverpool contract expiring in 2023.

Liverpool have not been willing to meet the forward’s hefty salary demands so far, despite his performances this season. And it has put PSG on red alert, as they look to lure the former Chelsea starlet to Paris and help him unit with two of the stars in the game, in the form of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Salah is expected to serve as a direct replacement for Mbappe, who is widely tipped to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next season. For a brief moment, the Frenchman was linked with a move to Liverpool, but it is apparent that the player favours a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Liverpool, though, have been linked with a move for a lot of attackers lately, especially wingers such as Noa Lang and Ismaila Sarr. It does suggest that the club is indeed preparing for life without Salah, whose departure could serve as a massive financial boost for the Reds, thus helping them in their quest to juice up the overall depth of the squad.

However, figures like Jamie Carragher have publicly urged Liverpool to extend the contract of Salah, who is also a fan-favourite at Anfield. So it remains to be seen whether the Reds get swayed and one could imagine a lot could depend on whether or not they can regain the Premier League title or win the Champions League this season.
