West Ham United are reportedly set to hold talks with Real Madrid over the possible loan signing of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin in the summer.

According to the print edition of the Sunday Mirror, as relayed by TBR Football, West Ham United are planning to hold talks with Real Madrid as they explore the possibility of signing Andriy Lunin on loan in the summer window.

Lunin has been with Real Madrid since 2018 when he arrived from Ukrainian outfit Zorya Luhansk. Upon arrival, he was immediately loaned out to CD Leganes for the 2018/19 campaign. The 23-year-old then spent the first half of the 2019/20 season away at Real Valladolid before finishing the campaign at Real Oviedo.

Lunin has been at Real Madrid for the past couple of seasons but has found game-time hard to come by. To date, he has featured just five times for the reigning champions of Spain and Europe, with four of those coming in the 2021/22 season.

Unhappy with his lack of involvement, Lunin is considering the possibility of leaving this summer, while Real Madrid are believed to be open to the prospect of loaning the Ukrainian international out for the upcoming season.

Lunin has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, with their London rivals West Ham United also entering the fray to sign the 23-year-old Real Madrid ace now.

West Ham United are set to keep hold of veteran goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for another year but will need a backup for the former Arsenal star. Alphonse Areola’s loan spell with the Hammers side stands to expire imminently, although discussions are being held to make his transfer to the London Stadium permanent.

However, West Ham seem to be keeping their options open if they miss out on the Frenchman. Lunin, to that end, has emerged as a potential alternative, with David Moyes’ side planning to hold talks with Real Madrid over a loan deal for the 23-year-old.

The report adds that Real Madrid will seek assurances over the goalkeeper’s game-time, which might become a hurdle as Fabianski remains the first-choice custodian at West Ham United. However, Los Blancos might agree to a loan-to-buy deal for Lunin, who is valued at £13 million. Whether West Ham press ahead with their interest in the Ukrainian or push to land Areola permanently will be interesting to see.
