Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Andriy Lunin is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Ukrainian goalkeeper could leave Real Madrid ahead of the 2022/23 season to secure regular game-time elsewhere.

Andriy Lunin spent his formative years with several Ukrainian clubs before bursting into the limelight during his stint with Zorya Luhansk. The 23-year-old moved to Real Madrid in July 2018 and has since made gradual progress in his career, even though his managers have rated him highly.

Thibaut Courtois’s imposing presence in the Real Madrid goal has hampered Lunin’s prospects, with the youngster restricted to appearances in cup competitions for the most part. Lunin has turned out twice in La Liga this season thanks to Los Blancos sealing the title early. But he wants to feature more prominently next season, leaving his Real Madrid future up in the air while attracting Tottenham Hotspur.

The interest from Tottenham is a tad bit surprising, even though Hugo Lloris is approaching the final phase of his career. While Spurs need to bring in a long-term successor for their club captain, Lunin will unlikely get much game-time to begin with if he moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In addition, Sam Johnstone is on the verge of sealing a Bosman move to Tottenham in the summer transfer window, meaning the north Londoners might not need to invest in another goalkeeper. Seeking an alternative solution will thus keep the Real Madrid outcast in good stead.

Lunin is not only linked with Tottenham, with Borussia Dortmund and Juventus also showing an interest in the Real Madrid outcast. Moving to either of those clubs could serve the 23-year-old well, with regular game-time a likelier prospect at Borussia Dortmund.

A move to Tottenham seems unlikely despite the report by Fichajes. As for Real Madrid, the Spanish giants have been linked with several goalkeepers lately, including Luca Zidane. So the Merengues might be prepared for Lunin’s departure, although it will be interesting to see if he ends up staying put at Real Madrid instead.
