Newcastle United make contact with prolific Napoli ace Victor Osimhen who is also attracting attention from Manchester United.

According to Calciomercato, Premier League side Newcastle United have established contact with Italian giants Napoli regarding a summer move for star striker Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian international is one of the finest young strikers in the game and has impressed in Italy since moving to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in 2020. He has since made 60 appearances for Gli Azzurri, scoring 27 goals and assisting nine more.

At 23, Osimhen is primed to take the next step in his career, and Newcastle have identified him as their top attacking target this summer. The Magpies are keen to challenge for European football next season and believe the Napoli man can help spearhead the campaign.

The Toon signed Chris Wood last January, but the former Burnley man has come up short of expectations. He is a far cry from the quality needed for a side aiming for the top. With Premier League status retained, Newcastle will be well placed to add to their side and could go all out in the coming months.

Napoli, for their part, are not averse to a sale. The Italian side’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is open to selling his star man for around €100 million. While the asking price is rather steep, it should not be an issue for a side such as Newcastle, who are right now swimming in gold.

Osimhen is a significant improvement over whoever the Magpies have in attack and can also lead their line for years to come. Whether the Nigerian can become Newcastle’s Sergio Aguero remains to be seen.

Another side who are keeping close tabs on Osimhen are Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is set to take over the Red Devils in the summer, and the Dutchman will need to overtake a squad revamp of sorts to make the club challenge again.

Edinson Cavani will depart the club in the summer, while Marcus Rashford has struggled to impress and has seen his form fall off a cliff. Anthony Martial appears to be surplus to requirements while Cristiano Ronaldo is not getting any younger. It is fair to say that the Red Devils need a reliable goalscorer upfront, and Osimhen certainly fits the bill.

An excellent dribbler of the ball, Osimhen is also a force to be reckoned with in the air. The Nigerian is the complete package and has the best years of his career ahead of him. He can comfortably develop into an ace striker at either Newcastle or Manchester under the right guidance. Where he will eventually end up remains to be seen, but with the Magpies making a contact they may have their noses in front as of now.
