Erik ten Hag is the new Manchester United manager, with the Dutch tactician set to replace Ralf Rangnick at the helm in the summer.

Manchester United have made an official statement to announce that Erik ten Hag will be the new permanent manager. The Dutch tactician, currently managing Ajax, will replace Ralf Rangnick at the helm at Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 season and will sign a three-year contract with the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag has garnered the reputation of being one of the most dynamic young coaches in Europe, with his reputation soaring during his ongoing stint with Ajax. The 52-year-old joined the Dutch giants in December 2017 after honing his skills at Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II, and FC Utrecht.

But during his ongoing spell with Ajax, ten Hag has overseen a successful period, with the club winning two Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups, and a Johan Cruyff Shield. The Dutch giants are also on course to win a second successive league title, the third during ten Hag’s reign.

Unsurprisingly, ten Hag’s stock has gone through the roof during the last four and a half years, and the Dutchman has been linked with several clubs, with Manchester United being the latest big-name suitors.

The Red Devils have been searching for a new permanent first-team manager since sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the early months of the 2021/22 season. Ralf Rangnick has since filled in as the interim Manchester United manager, but their fortunes have continued to dwindle in the last few months.

The latest blow came in the form of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool, leaving Manchester United with a tall order to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Following the defeat to Liverpool, the outcry to appoint a new manager quickly has grown, and the English giants have responded by announcing ten Hag’s appointment.

Following the confirmation , ten Hag, who has agreed to a three-year deal starting July, expressed his delight to join Manchester United, saying, “It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead.”

“I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve. It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”

Reports this week had claimed that Manchester United had told the players that Erik ten Hag is the new manager. With the appointment now officiated, Manchester United can set sights on approaching the summer transfer window with focus and initiate what will be another rebuild.
