Manchester United have told their players of Erik ten Hag’s imminent appointment, with a formal announcement to follow at the weekend.

According to Daily Mirror, Manchester United have informed their players about Erik ten Hag’s imminent appointment as the club’s new manager. The Red Devils could make the formal announcement after the weekend’s clash with Arsenal.

Many things have been kept under wraps in the last few weeks since Erik ten hag was interviewed for the Manchester United job. After the Dutchman relayed his ideas to the board, the choice has been clear, although the Old Trafford hierarchy wanted to see what the other candidates had to offer.

Within days, the media had the understanding that ten Hag was the preferred choice after the club evaluated their other options. The Dutchman is leading Ajax towards another Eredivisie title and hence, Manchester United have held back from making an announcement.

The news has been dragging through its course as fans and pundits believe the Dutchman is the chosen one for the Old Trafford role. He will replace interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who spoke at length about Manchester United’s transfer plans in the summer.

According to Rangnick, it will take more than three or four players to rebuild this squad and indirectly confirmed the new incoming manager will have a significant say in the recruitment process. Ten Hag has reportedly suggested a few names for Manchester United to pursue and sign in the summer.

Before anything happens, Manchester United still have to officially announce the appointment, and they could do so after the weekend’s game against Arsenal. For now, the club have reportedly informed the players of their decision to name the Dutchman as the next man in charge.

Ten Hag is expected to overhaul the squad to an extent, and a change in their playing style looks imminent. Manchester United have struggled to adopt one particular style, with Rangnick often changing things on the pitch depending on the opposition.

Manchester United fans have craved a consistent style of play as is the case with rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. The club aspire to be named in the same sentence as their rivals and believe ten Hag is the man to take them back to the top.

Manchester United are still vying for a top-four place, a chase which was dealt a blow on Tuesday after their crushing defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. They next face Arsenal at the Emirates on the weekend, with the Gunners one of their competitors for the UEFA Champions League spots alongside Tottenham Hotspur.
