Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is reportedly not interested in joining Manchester City upon the expiration of his contract with the Red Devils.

The Athletic report that Paul Pogba has turned down the opportunity to join Manchester City in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Manchester United midfielder’s contract with the Red Devils runs out this summer, and he will be free to join any other club in a Bosman deal.

Manchester City were recently linked with a shock move for Pogba. The Premier League champions are looking to add midfield reinforcements this summer as they prepare for Fernandinho’s exit. The Frenchman emerged as a potential option along with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, with reports even claiming that Pogba is receptive to the idea of joining Manchester United’s arch-rivals.

The 29-year-old was tabled a ‘flattering’ offer from Manchester City, and he gave crossing the Manchester divide a serious thought. However, Pogba has ultimately chosen against the move, and his entourage informed the Pep Guardiola-managed side that the move cannot materialise.

Pogba has been linked with the likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid but is yet to decide on his future. His exit from Manchester United looks imminent, though, with a contract extension looking highly unlikely.

Pogba returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world-record fee of £89 million. He has been highly inconsistent in the six-year stay since, showing flashes of brilliance while going anonymous for long periods as well. The Frenchman has not been able to capture the Manchester United fans’ imagination during his second spell with the club and looks set to depart as a free agent.

In eight years with the Red Devils – two between 2010 and 2012 and six since 2016 – Pogba has made 233 appearances for the club, scoring 39 times and assisting 51 goals. He started the ongoing season in fine fashion, assisting seven goals in the first four league matches before falling off the radar, with a hamstring injury restricting his appearances.

Another calf injury picked up in April this year has brought a premature end to his season and possibly his Manchester United career. Where Pogba will head off to next remains unclear, but a Bosman move to Manchester City seems unlikely.
