Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for rivals Manchester City.

Daily Mail are reporting that Manchester City are showing interest in Paul Pogba, whose contract with Manchester United expires this summer. The Frenchman will be free to join any club of his choice on a Bosman deal, with a contract extension looking highly unlikely.

Manchester City are now exploring the possibility of getting the Frenchman on board and could approach him after his Manchester United contract runs out. The Premier League champions are preparing for life without Fernandinho, who is set to leave the Etihad this summer when his contract comes to an end.

Signing a central midfielder is high on Manchester City’s priority list, with the likes of Declan Rice and Frenkie de Jong also getting linked. While Rice is expected to cost exorbitant amounts, de Jong seems a more gettable target keeping in mind Barcelona’s wage-bill issues. But Pogba’s entry on their wishlist changes things completely.

Signing Pogba could be a straightforward affair for the Cityzens with his Manchester United contract expiring. But Manchester are not the only club interested in the Frenchman’s signature, with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly admirers of the 29-year-old and are keen to get him on board this summer.

Pogba currently earns £290,000-per-week at Old Trafford, and none of the three suitors would have a problem matching those terms of offering him a better deal. The report by Daily Mail claims that Pogba might not turn down the chance to join Manchester City at once, and will like to study their offer before making a decision.

The Frenchman has had an injury-ravaged 2021/22 season, where he has made 27 appearances for Manchester United across competitions, scoring once and assisting nine goals. Pogba had made a great start to the ongoing season, but a hamstring injury kept him for large parts of the season. A calf injury has now ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

It remains to be seen which club Pogba ends up joining as he nears a second free move away from Manchester United. But a move to Manchester City could well be on the cards for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
