Real Madrid could call off the pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni, a target for Chelsea and Manchester United, due to his €70 million price tag.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Aurelien Tchouameni’s €70 million price tag is forcing Real Madrid to consider ending his pursuit. The AS Monaco midfielder is also a target for Chelsea and Manchester United, among others, over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Aurelien Tchouameni has come leaps and bounds since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. The 22-year-old has become a pivotal figure for the Monegasque club while establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1. At the same time, he has carved a place for himself in the French national side ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The youngster has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, turning out 46 times for AS Monaco while chipping in with three goals and two assists. Tchouameni’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United, setting their sights on him.

Recent reports have claimed that Tchouameni is a priority target for Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window. The stance is understandable, considering Casemiro is into his thirties and has no viable backup in the squad. Tchouameni is thus an option worth considering for Real Madrid.

As for Chelsea, the Blues could lose Jorginho in the summer transfer window amid the Italian international’s links with various Serie A clubs. In addition, N’Golo Kante has shown signs of regression following his recent injury woes. Tchouameni is thus a viable target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window, provided their ownership situation gets resolved soon.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will delve into the market for at least one midfield reinforcement in the summer transfer window, with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba set to depart from Old Trafford. And Tchouameni could be the long-sought defensive midfield reinforcement for Manchester United.

The two English bigwigs have now been handed a boost in pursuit of Tchouameni, with Real Madrid weighing up the prospect of calling off their pursuit of the 22-year-old. The player’s €70 million price tag is the biggest obstacle, although the Merengues hope that he can bring it down by pushing for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will not pay more than €40 million for Tchouameni, meaning his €70 million price tag is too steep. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea, Manchester United and other suitors can pounce on the latest development to land the AS Monaco midfielder.
