Aston Villa are eyeing a swoop for Heart of Midlothian’s teenage sensation Ewan Simpson, who is currently coached by Steven Naismith.

According to a report from Daily Mail, Aston Villa are ready to step up their pursuit of Ewan Simpson. The young midfielder is only 15 years young but he already plies his trade with the Heart of Midlothian’s Under-17 setup and has even impressed for the U-18 teams, making him one of the most talented players in his age group in Scotland.

Despite his tender age, Simpson has been on the radar of various scouts across Britain. While Scottish clubs like Rangers and Celtic will undoubtedly flock to secure the services of the young midfielder in the summer, Premier League outfit Aston Villa are ready to make their case as well.

Indeed, the Villans have followed up their interest by initiating talks with Hearts over the possibility of signing their teenage prospect in the summer. They are hoping to lure the 15-year-old to the English shores ahead of the new season by offering him the opportunity to become a part of an elite AVFC youth academy.

The academy has produced talents such as Jack Grealish and Jacob Ramsey in recent years. Even Aston Villa’s first-team has relied heavily on the rise of their academy prospects, with Ramsey notably becoming a key player for coach Steven Gerrard.

Speaking of Gerrard, the former Liverpool midfielder has an excellent knowledge of Scottish football thanks to his successful time at Rangers. And it appears the Aston Villa coach believes Ewan Simpson has what it takes to become a success in the Premier League.

Simpson is one of many Scottish teenagers who have gained prominence among the English scouts in recent years. Aston Villa themselves had signed Kerr Smith from Dundee United last summer while the likes of Leeds United and Liverpool are in the market to sign Calvin Ramsay.

However, Ewan Simpson is considerably younger than the two and at the age of just 15, he has a long way to go before he can make the move south of the border. Hence, it won’t be surprising to see him stay put at Hearts for now and continue his rapid development under youth coach Steven Naismith.
