Manchester United will reportedly prioritise signing Frenkie de Jong in the summer, but Barcelona will not sell the Dutch midfielder.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Frenkie de Jong has become the priority target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. But Barcelona will not entertain the idea of parting with the Dutch midfielder, who has become a crucial part of Xavi Hernandez’s squad.

Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in July 2019, completing what was a dream move for him. While the Catalan giants have not enjoyed much success during his stint at Camp Nou, the 24-year-old has remained one of the best midfielders in Europe, with his stock rising constantly.

The Dutch international endured some hiccups midway through the ongoing campaign but has been a regular for Barcelona, chipping in with four goals and five assists in 42 appearances thus far this term. Several high profile clubs across Europe have set their sights on de Jong, with Manchester United being one of his prospective suitors.

The interest from Manchester United comes ahead of what will be a crucial summer transfer window wherein Erik ten Hag will begin his rebuild of the squad following his appointment as the new first-team manager. And midfield will be one of the areas that Manchester United will need to reinforce before the 2022/23 season begins.

According to SPORT, Manchester United will prioritise signing de Jong in the summer transfer window. But Barcelona will not even entertain the idea of selling the Dutch midfield maestro, as he has become a pivotal figure for the Blaugrana under Xavi Hernandez’s guidance.
