Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping close tabs on the development of Coventry City youngster Callum O’Hare.
According to Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have doubled up on their scouting mission in the Championship, with Callum O’Hare emerging as one of their potential targets in the summer. The Premier League giants have been closely following the progress of the talented attacker, who currently plies his trade at Coventry City.
Formerly of the Aston Villa academy, O’Hare has been a part of the Coventry setup since the summer of 2019. The 23-year-old had initially joined the club on a loan deal, but after a successful 2019/20 campaign, he was signed permanently on a free transfer in the following summer.
During his three years at the club, the 23-year-old has featured in 132 competitive matches for Coventry City. O’Hare has an impressive tally of 12 goals and 32 assists, helping the club not only gain promotion to the Championship in 2020 but also thrive in the second division.
An attacking midfielder by trade, O’Hare has impressed the onlookers with his ability to create chances in the final third. In addition to chance creation, the English attacker is a dynamic attacker who has the knack for scoring the odd goals, making him a sought-after prospect in the Championship, popping up on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham’s interest in O’Hare could be indicative of the club’s shift towards a policy that revolves around the development of youth players. They have indeed targeted multiple homegrown talents this year, including Peterborough United’s defensive stalwart Ronnie Edwards and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson.
From a sporting perspective, Callum O’Hara could be considered as part of Antonio Conte’s plans to reinforce the creative unit. Tottenham had notably offloaded Dele Alli in January and are likely to part ways with Tanguy Ndombele as well, thus accentuating the need for a new face in the number ten role.
Spurs have expressed the desire to re-sign Christian Eriksen from Brentford. While the Danish international could be an ideal starter in Tottenham’s creative unit alongside Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, O’Hare could prove to be an interesting alternative.
The 23-year-old has immense potential and has shown multiple times that he has what it takes to be a successful at the highest level of football, having been notably involved in 12 league goals this term. O’Hare is unlikely to cost a fortune either, making him a shrewd option for Tottenham Hotspur in their quest to add more depth to the creative unit.
