Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez will reportedly prioritise signing Spanish left-back Adria Pedrosa, who has a €30 million release clause, in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Adria Pedrosa is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish left-back has a release clause worth €30 million.

Adria Pedrosa spent his formative years with UE Castelldefels and EF Gava before completing his footballing education at Espanyol. The 23-year-old broke into the first-team setup at the RCDE Stadium in November 2018 and has since gone from strength to strength at the Catalan club.

The Spanish left-back has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, chipping in with two goals and two assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. Pedrosa’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, earning a keen admirer in Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, who will ask the Blaugrana to pursue him as a priority target in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona will delve into the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window, which is understandable considering Jordi Alba is on the wrong side of 30. The veteran left-back has shown signs of age catching up with him in the last couple of seasons, meaning Barcelona must sign a long-term successor despite his impressive performances in 2022.

While Alejandro Balde is primed to achieve big things at Barcelona, the young full-back is yet to settle down in the first-team setup at Camp Nou. The Blaugrana will thus need to invest in a left-back in the summer transfer window, with Javi Galan one of the options on their radar.

Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno is also on Barcelona’s shortlist of left-back targets. But Xavi Hernandez will prefer to sign Espanyol defender Adria Pedrosa instead, although triggering his €30 million release clause could leave Barcelona in a spot of bother.

For now, what seems certain is that Pedrosa has become the priority target for Xavi, who will coax Barcelona to launch the offensive for him. Whether the Catalan giants are prepared to trigger his €30 million release clause or look to negotiate a lower sum remains to be seen.
