Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio will demand a contract worth €8 million per year to join Serie A giants AC Milan in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Marco Asensio has made his terms clear to join AC Milan in the summer transfer window. The Real Madrid forward will demand a contract worth €8 million to move to San Siro ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Marco Asensio is at a crossroads in his career after enjoying a solid 2021/22 campaign that has not yielded him a regular berth in the Real Madrid starting lineups. The 26-year-old has scored 11 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, recently starring in Real Madrid’s win over Osasuna this week.

But the Spanish forward faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid, as his contract runs out next year, while Kylian Mbappe’s arrival could push him further down the pecking order. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high profile clubs across Europe, with AC Milan among the player’s prospective suitors.

The interest from AC Milan stems from the waning performance levels of Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias. The wide-attacking duo has blown hot and cold this season, with some of their recent displays leaving a lot to be desired. Signing a more consistent forward like Asensio will be a step in the right direction for AC Milan to remain in contention to win the Serie A title for years.

Recent reports have suggested that the Serie A giants could soon be under new ownership, with Bahraini outfit Investcorp in talks to take over the club in the coming weeks. Under the new regime, AC Milan’s purchasing power could increase, and they might be able to afford to sign Asensio from Real Madrid.

AC Milan had recently offered the 26-year-old a deal worth €5 million per year. But Asensio wants a higher pay package is demanding an €8 million-a-year contract to leave Real Madrid and join the Serie A giants. While it is unclear if the Rossoneri will meet Asensio’s demands, the Investcorp takeover could change things.

As things stand, Asensio’s future remains up in the air, as he could still sign a new contract with Real Madrid. But with AC Milan in the fray to land the Spanish forward, the summer transfer window could be an interesting period.
