Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly keen on signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in a €20 million deal in the summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Daniele Longo, Marco Asensio is becoming a key target for AC Milan heading into the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants are ready to offer €20 million to prise the Spanish international away from Real Madrid ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Marco Asensio was widely regarded as the future of Real Madrid before a long-term knee injury struck him in 2019. Since returning from the layoff, the 26-year-old has endured a topsy-turvy ride at the Santiago Bernabeu, struggling to nail down a spot as an undisputed first-choice wide-attacker for Real Madrid.

The same holds true this season despite a solid tally of eight goals in 24 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid thus far. And with the Spanish forward’s contract running out in a little over a year, the Merengues are in a spot of bother over his long-term future. Asensio does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing him either, with AC Milan among the clubs keen on signing him.

The interest from AC Milan stems from the inconsistent performances of players who often take up the right-wing berth. Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers have shared the position. But despite some impressive performances, neither has managed to be convincing enough to be a game-changer regularly.

With Rafael Leao going all guns blazing on the left-wing, adding a player like Asensio on the opposite flank could transform AC Milan into a force to be reckoned with, not just in Serie A but also in Europe. And it looks like the Italian heavyweights are prepared to make their offer for the Real Madrid forward.

As per Daniele Longo, the Serie A giants are eyeing a €20 million move for the 26-year-old heading into the summer transfer window. For his part, Asensio will have no qualms leaving Real Madrid to join Milan, although the same holds true for their Serie A rivals Juventus.

Joining AC Milan will enable Asensio to secure regular game-time, especially with Real Madrid unwilling to meet his wage demands. But it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will be open to cashing in on the Spanish forward and whether a €20 million offer will be enough to sell him.
