Manchester United are reportedly ready to rival Bayern Munich for the signing of Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Manchester United are ready to make a backdoor entry in the race to sign Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. Bayern Munich are believed to be in advanced talks with the player’s entourage over a possible summer move but the Red Devils could spoil the German giants’ party.

An Ajax youth product, the 19-year-old has been highly impressive for the Dutch club over the past couple of seasons. Gravenberch’s passing and ball control have caught the attention of a few European giants – Bayern Munich and Manchester United being two of them.

The Bavarian giants have been especially interested in Gravenberch and are believed to have made contact with the midfielder’s representatives. Bayern Munich and Gravenberch are in an advanced stage of negotiations, but Manchester United are not ready to lose hope yet.

With the impending arrival of Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils are preparing themselves to give the Dutch tactician the best possible chance to take the club back to the upper echelons of European football. Ten Hag has reportedly requested the Manchester United’s board to sign the Ajax midfielder this summer.

Manchester United are preparing for a major summer overhaul, and midfield is one of the areas they are looking to improve. The departure of Paul Pogba, whose deal with the club expires this summer, will also force their hands into signing a midfielder this summer. In addition, Nemanja Matic has also confirmed that he will depart at the end of the season.

Gravenberch can also play as a defensive midfielder which will give Manchester United more variety in the midfield if they sign him. That ten Hag has managed the player at Ajax will also play into the Premier League giants’ hands. But the deal is not expected to be straightforward with Bayern Munich heavily interested in the 19-year-old.

Should Manchester United fail to complete the Ajax midfielder’s signing, they are expected to target Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Red Devils have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. But if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, it could seriously hamper their chances of landing all their top targets.
