Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Miralem Pjanic on loan from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Miralem Pjanic is the subject of interest from AC Milan over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants want to sign the Barcelona midfielder on an initial loan deal with an option to buy him in 2023.

Miralem Pjanic’s Barcelona stint has been right out of a horror story, with the Bosnian midfielder barely featuring in his maiden campaign at Camp Nou. Barcelona then sent the player out on loan to Besiktas, where he has been decent. But he will not join the Turkish club permanently, meaning the Blaugrana will need to seek a solution for him.

The 32-year-old has made 25 appearances for Besiktas, chipping in with four assists in the process. But Pjanic has no future at Barcelona, especially with Xavi Hernandez set to continue remodelling the first-team squad in the summer transfer window. And AC Milan could offer the experienced midfielder an escape route out of Camp Nou.

AC Milan will lose Franck Kessie as a free agent in the summer transfer window, with the Ivory Coast international on the verge of completing a Bosman move to Barcelona. Kessie’s departure will leave a huge void in the midfield department at San Siro, prompting Milan to enter the market for a central midfielder.

The Serie A giants have been linked with several players, including Jorginho, with Pjanic now emerging as a viable target. The 32-year-old might not be a like-for-like replacement for Kessie, but his qualities align well with Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer.

The 32-year-old also has prior experience in the Serie A with AS Roma and Juventus, meaning he could be a valuable addition to the AC Milan squad. The Serie A giants want to sign Pjanic on an initial loan deal in the summer transfer window while reserving the option to sign him permanently from Barcelona next year.

The stumbling block for Milan could be Pjanic’s astronomical wages. So it will be interesting to see if the Barcelona loanee is prepared to take a pay cut to return to Serie A, either by joining AC Milan or Inter Milan, another club to emerge in his pursuit.
