La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign 25-year-old AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie on a four-year deal worth €6.5 million per year.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Franck Kessie is on the verge of officially completing a Bosman move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old AC Milan midfielder has completed his medical and will pen a four-year, €6.5 million-a-year contract with the Blaugrana.

Franck Kessie has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Atalanta. Since permanently moving to the San Siro nearly three years ago, the Ivory Coast international has progressed considerably, playing a pivotal role in the Italian club’s resurgence in this period.

To date, the 25-year-old has turned out 214 times for AC Milan, chipping in with 36 goals and 16 assists in the process. But the Serie A giants are set to lose Kessie as a free agent in the summer transfer window after failing to agree on terms over a new contract. The player’s next destination appears to be Barcelona.

The Catalan giants seem to be resurgent under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, aided by Joan Laporta’s tendency to make smart, cost-effective signings. Several free agents have already joined Barcelona in the past year, including January arrival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Kessie could be the latest success story for Barcelona, considering he has been one of the best midfielders in the Serie A for nearly half a decade. The Ivorian’s ability to play different roles in the middle of the park means he could be a valuable addition to the Barcelona squad, especially with Sergio Busquets nearing the final phase of his glittering career.

Recent reports had indicated that Kessie and Barcelona were in advanced talks to seal a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The free transfer has now been finalised, with Kessie set to pen a four-year contract worth €6.5 million per year after completing his medical this week.

Kessie’s arrival will prompt a slight re-modelling of Barcelona’s midfield unit, with Riqui Puig facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou.
