Atletico Madrid will reportedly provide stiff competition to Barcelona and Tottenham in the race to sign Alex Moreno in the summer.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Alex Moreno is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Real Betis defender is also a target for Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.

Alex Moreno has gone from strength to strength since joining Real Betis from Rayo Vallecano in August 2019. The 28-year-old is currently in his third season with Los Verdiblancos and has played a key role in their ascent in La Liga in the last few years.

The Spanish left-back has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, chipping in with five goals and five assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. Moreno’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, setting their sights on him.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the advancing years of Jordi Alba. While the veteran left-back has been largely consistent since Xavi Hernandez took charge at Camp Nou, he is approaching the final phase of his career. That fact will not be lost on the Barcelona manager, prompting him to set sights on Moreno.

As for Tottenham, while Ryan Sessegnon has produced consistently improved performances under Antonio Conte, Sergio Reguilon’s long-term future is up in the air. Interestingly, the Spanish left-back has recently been linked with Barcelona, forcing Tottenham to scour the market for a viable replacement. Moreno has thus emerged on Spurs’ radar.

Reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are the latest club to show an interest in the 28-year-old. That is because Renan Lodi’s future at the Wanda Metropolitano is far from certain, with Juventus keen on securing his services. Moreno is thus a viable target for Atletico Madrid.

But the Spaniard might not come cheap, considering he extended his contract with Real Betis earlier this year in January. With his deal running until June 30, 2025, the Andalusian giants could demand a premium to part with Moreno. So it will be interesting to see if Barcelona, Tottenham, and Atletico Madrid can afford to sign the 28-year-old.
