Chelsea midfielder Jorginho could be on the verge of a return to Serie A, with Juventus reportedly confident of snapping up his services.

According to Football Insider, Juventus are getting increasingly confident of their chance of signing Jorginho in the summer. The midfielder has emerged as the club’s top target, as the Bianconeri look to take full advantage of Chelsea’s ongoing ownership crisis.

Jorginho’s current deal at Stamford Bridges expires at the end of next season. But Chelsea are not in a position to hold talks over a renewal as they have been banned from doing business in the market or even extending contracts with existing players owing to the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich by the UK Government.

Jorginho is regarded as one of the best midfielders in world football in light of his success under Thomas Tuchel. He played a vital role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph as well as Italy’s Euro 2020 campaign, with the Italian midfield maestro’s performances helping him finish third in last year’s Ballon d’Or.

But after making 180 competitive appearances for Chelsea, Jorginho appears to be keen on sealing a return to his homeland. Prior to his move to Stamford Bridge, he had played for Napoli and has over 150 appearances in Serie A.

While a return to Naples does not appear to be a likely proposition, Jorginho could join Napoli’s Serie A rivals Juventus. The Bianconeri are gearing up for a massive overhaul in the midfield department, with Arthur Melo reportedly on the radar of Newcastle United, whereas Adrien Rabiot could be allowed to leave the club as well.

It seems Massimiliano Allegri wants to build the team around Manuel Locatelli and Denis Zakaria. And in Jorginho, he could find himself an ideal leader who can complement the two and add grace to Juventus’s build-up and possession play by essentially taking on the role of former great Andrea Pirlo.

Chelsea, for their part, are set to offer fierce resistance to Juventus’s bid to sign Jorginho. But the Blues are preparing for contingency plans, having been linked with a move for emerging French talent Aurelien Tchouameni as well as Bayern Munich outcast Corentin Tolisso, in order to add more depth in the midfield unit.

The Premier League giants could be boosted by the return of Conor Gallagher from his loan spell at Crystal Palace. But the Englishman has been courted by several clubs across Europe as well, including Juventus and Inter Milan. So it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Chelsea’s midfield unit this summer.
