Chelsea are keeping tabs on the situation of Arsenal youngster Khayon Edwards, whose contract with the Gunners stands to expire in the summer.

According to football.london’s Chris Wheatley, Chelsea are monitoring 18-year-old Arsenal prospect Khayon Edwards who could be available on a Bosman deal in the summer transfer window.

Edwards is one of the most highly-rated young prospects to have come through the academy at Arsenal in recent years. The teenage centre-forward has impressed for the Gunners Under-18 outfit so far, already netting 23 goals and setting up nine more in just 41 matches. In addition, he has one goal and one assist apiece from six appearances for the Under-23s.

Edwards is yet to make his first-team debut for Arsenal, but he is enjoying a productive 2021/22 campaign, having bagged 17 goals from just 22 matches across all competitions for the youth teams and reserves combined.

However, Edwards could be on his way out of Arsenal at the end of the season as his current scholarship deal with the north London giants stands to expire in a few months.

Arsenal are keen on tying the teenage striker down to a new deal, and talks over an extension have been going on for several months. Despite that, Edwards is attracting a lot of interest, with RB Leipzig, Feyenoord and Hertha Berlin monitoring his situation. Now, Chelsea, too, are keeping a close watch on the development surrounding Edwards’ contract.

Chelsea have one of the most potent youth systems where they have a plethora of exciting young talent coming through the ranks. While in the past, the players would be loaned out for years before being sold out, things have changed of late, with academy products like Mason Mount, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Trevoh Chalobah becoming first-team regulars at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea wish to continue strengthening their youth ranks and have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain starlet Ismael Gharbi, while they were also working on a deal for Gabriel Slonina, although the move fell through. Edwards, too, has popped up on their radars, although a move would be unlikely given their current situation.

Furthermore, contract negotiations with Arsenal are going well, meaning the 18-year-old could renew his contract and stay put with Chelsea’s London rivals beyond the current season.
