Manchester United are reportedly preparing to sell goalkeeper David de Gea in the summer transfer window.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United have prepared a five-man shortlist to offload in the summer transfer window, and David de Gea is one of the players on it. The Red Devils are preparing for a huge summer transfer window that could well decide their long-term fate.

The Premier League giants are set to appoint a new manager in the summer and want to give him every opportunity to leave his imprint on the side. They are thus ready for a mass exodus to facilitate summer signings to improve the squad. In this quest, they have identified David de Gea, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani as the five possible exits, the aforementioned report states.

David de Gea joined Manchester United in the 2011 summer transfer window as a 20-year-old. Since his move from Atletico Madrid, the 30-year-old has made 478 appearances for the Red Devils. He grew into the most important player at the club following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, often dragging the side through matches with his immaculate shot-stopping.

The former Atletico goalkeeper was named Manchester United’s Player of the Year four times between 2013 and 2018. He was also named in the Premier League Team of the Season on five different occasions, and won the Premier League Golden Glove award in the 2017/18 season. But recently, de Gea’s form has taken a dip.

Though he has been one of Manchester United’s better players this season, his ball-playing ability has been brought into question recently. He has often found himself in tricky positions, forced to play wayward passes and that has even cost the side on some occasions.

With Dean Henderson waiting in the wings, Manchester United are ready to part ways with de Gea, who will have just one year remaining on his contract after the ongoing season. Some reports have also claimed that the Spaniard is keen on returning to his home country, where his wife and one-year-old son live.

Henderson has looked assured in the limited chances he has received so far, leaving Manchester United with a solid replacement for David de Gea.
