Borussia Dortmund are reportedly expecting star striker Erling Haaland to join Manchester City in the summer.

According to German football journalist Christian Falk, Borussia Dortmund officials are aware that Erling Haaland has agreed personal terms with the Cityzens, which would see him join the Premier League giants in the upcoming window. Another report from The Times claims that City are prepared to make the 21-year-old Premier League’s highest-paid player.

Haaland first burst onto the scene at Red Bull Salzburg, scoring 29 goals in 27 appearances for the Austrian club between January 2019 and January 2020. Eight of his goals for Salzburg came in just six Champions League appearances, which alerted quite a few top European clubs.

Dortmund were the first to move, signing the Norwegian for just £18 million in the 2020 winter window. Haaland has more than repaid that fee. The centre-forward has been in scintillating goalscoring form for the Bundesliga giants, averaging almost a goal per match. In 81 games, he has scored 80 and assisted 21 goals in a little over two years for the club.

Haaland was one of the hottest properties in Europe last summer transfer window as well, but a release clause in his Dortmund contract forced potential suitors to wait for one more season. Following the culmination of the 2021/22 season, the Norwegian can leave for around £63 million, which is a steal considering the talent he possesses.

While the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United have been linked with Haaland as well, it seems that City have moved ahead of the rest in the race to sign the 21-year-old. They are reportedly ready to pay the centre-forward more than £500,000 per week in wages, which would make him the Premier League’s highest-paid player.

But City are ready to pay that amount of money due to their necessity of a striker. The Cityzens have wanted to find a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who left for Barcelona last summer but all their pursuits have been in vain so far. However, Haaland now seems like a reality, with officials at Dortmund also believing that the Norwegian could end up at the Etihad.

If true, the Norwegian international would be a blockbuster signing for Manchester City that could help them rule the Premier League for years to come.
