La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly closely monitoring the situation of Achraf Hakimi at PSG, with a summer bid on the cards.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Achraf Hakimi has popped up on the radar of former club Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are considering re-signing the Moroccan defender, but Paris Saint-Germain could play spoilsport for them.

Achraf Hakimi spent most of his formative years with Real Madrid before breaking into their first team around half a decade ago. But the 23-year-old largely grew in prominence away from Real Madrid, first during a two-year loan spell with Borussia Dortmund, then at Inter Milan last season.

The Moroccan international joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer and has continued going from strength to strength. Hakimi has three goals and three assists in 29 outings across all competitions for PSG this term, and his exploits have been noticed by some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid might have to dip their toes in the transfer market in the summer transfer window, as Dani Carvajal has endured a dip in performance levels due to his recent fitness issues. Lucas Vazquez and Nacho are the only other right-back candidates in the Real Madrid first-team setup, with both being makeshift options.

While Alvaro Odriozola has excelled on loan at Fiorentina, his performances have prompted the Serie A outfit to consider signing him permanently. Real Madrid could thus be forced to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window to compete with Carvajal, making Hakimi a viable target.

Other than the PSG defender, several other right-backs, including Jeremie Frimpong, have also been linked with Real Madrid. But Los Blancos’ prospects of re-signing the 23-year-old might not be bright considering their strained relations with PSG in the wake of their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

Hakimi recently suggested that Real Madrid did not necessarily have enough confidence in him, leading to his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu. But if the Merengues come calling, it will be interesting to see if the Moroccan defender shows any eagerness to return to the Spanish capital or stays put at PSG.
