The Evertonian has finally done it. A target that seemed invincible to many has been broken by perhaps, the most criticised world-class player England has ever produced.

Wayne Rooney came on in the late stages and with United needing a goal to avoid a defeat against Stoke, and the club captain stepped up big time. Rooney slotted the free-kick perfectly into the corner and with the goal, broke the long-standing record of 249 goals for Manchester United held by Sir Bobby Charlton.

Sir Bobby was himself in the crowd to witness the historic moment, which some had thought would never happen. And United fans poured their emotions out on Twitter as their club captain became the highest goalscorer in the club’s esteemed history.

The following tweets summarize the legendary career that he has had up until now, and the numbers are set to improve till the day when he eventually hangs up his boots.

But perhaps this reaction of Rooney’s is something that his manager Jose Mourinho and the Old Trafford faithful will love about the whole situation.
