Noel Whelan insists James Maddison will be suited for Tottenham Hotspur, thus urging Antonio Conte to sign the Leicester City star.

James Maddison was a transfer target for Arsenal last summer, and despite growing speculation, ended up remaining at Leicester City. The Gunners were keen, although brought back Martin Odegaard in a deal worth £30 million.

Maddison may have cost double that, and the Gunners were reluctant to part ways with a reported £60 million for the Foxes star. It worked out for Arsenal, as Odegaard has blossomed into one of their top attacking players this season.

The Gunners continue to hold an interest in Maddison and have been urged to sign the attacking midfielder in the summer. They could make an approach, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad further. The Leicester ace could be in the market during the close season as there are clubs vying for his interest.

Maddison has had his best season personally, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions. Tottenham are also keen on signing the attacking midfielder, and Noel Whelan urged Antonio Conte to move for the Foxes man and beat Arsenal to his signing.

Whelan told Football Insider that he feels Maddison, who is valued at £60 million, would suit Spurs and that the Leicester man could be the perfect foil behind their established front three.

Whelan said, “He’s a very intelligent attacking player. He scores goals gets loads of assists, and he’s a player Tottenham have been crying out for. They got Giovani Lo Celso after Christian Eriksen left – that never worked out. They’re really missing that midfield player who has an eye for a killer pass.”

“He’s proved he can do it in the Premier League by being a very important piece of the puzzle for Leicester. I think he would suit Tottenham down to the ground. With that front three in front of him, they could go to the next level with him.”

Leicester City could demand £60 million for Maddison’s transfer. The attacking midfielder will have two years left on his deal in the summer, which makes it an ideal time for the Foxes to cash in. Whether Arsenal or Tottenham make a move remains to be seen.
