Liverpool trumped Southampton 2-1 at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino despite a late error from Adrian.

It was Southampton who started the game stronger and caused plenty of problems for Jurgen Klopp’s men with their early balls in behind. However, a lack of clinical edge meant they failed to capitalise on their domination throughout the first half.

Against the run of play, it was Liverpool who struck the first blow on the verge of half-time with a wonderful curling effort to open his goalscoring account for the new Premier League season. Liverpool looked much better after the break and after a few missed opportunities, managed to double their lead in the 71st minute when Mane fed Roberto Firmino in, who guided the ball past Angus Gunn.

Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings pulled one back for Southampton late after a horrendous mistake from Reds’ goalkeeper Adrian. The Spaniard, under pressure, hurried a clearance into the striker’s legs with the ball bouncing off them and into the back of the net. Ings had a great chance to level things up minutes later, but sent his effort wide as Liverpool held on for a victory.

Here’s how the Liverpool supporters reacted to their third win in three games in all competitions.

The tense finish to the match certainly fastened the heartbeat of several Reds’ supporters on the day.

Many fans were unhappy with the mistake Adrian made, leading to Southampton’s goal, which handed them a way back into the game. Most were praying for a quick return to action for first-choice custodian Alisson Becker.
