Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that it would be an honour for him to play with Erling Haaland, who is a priority target for the club.

Speaking in an interview with SPORT, Barcelona’s new signing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has insisted that he would be happy to join forces with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland if the Catalans signed him in the summer.

Aubameyang joined the Blaugrana during the winter window. The 32-year-old arrived on a free transfer after falling out of favour at Arsenal, who terminated his contract midway through the season. Having landed in Catalonia, the ex-Gunners captain has already made a telling impact, scoring a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Valencia this past weekend.

Despite the number of attacking options available at manager Xavi’s disposal, Barcelona want to bring in another new striker in the summer transfer window and have made Erling Haaland their primary transfer target.

The 21-year-old has been tearing defences apart since joining Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg back in 2020 but could be on the move when the ongoing campaign ends. The Norwegian international is attracting serious interest from clubs across Europe, with Barcelona also very much keen on securing his services.

Should Barcelona succeed in landing Haaland, it might relegate Aubameyang into a backup role in the squad. Despite that, the veteran striker has insisted that he would look forward to playing with the Dortmund marksman should the Catalans capture his signing later this year while also praising the 21-year-old.

“I’m always prepared for healthy competition with my teammates, so it would be an honour to play with him if he ends up joining Barca. I’m not a coach, but I think Haaland is a great player. He scores a lot of goals, he has a very good physique and a lot of speed. He is very big, but he runs a lot. He is incredible,” Aubameyang said.

Barcelona might have their sights firmly set on Haaland, but they will face major competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are also pushing to sign him. Recent reports had even indicated that Los Blancos were in pole position to sign the 21-year-old from Dortmund in the summer. So, Barcelona will have their task cut out in beating Real Madrid to land the 21-year-old striker.
