Ajax star Jurrien Timber has addressed reports linking him with a move to Manchester United, suggesting he is happy in Amsterdam.

Manchester United might be in a difficult place after a disappointing season so far, but fans have plenty to look forward to next term with many necessary changes taking shape.

Chief among them has been the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager. After months of speculation, the 52-year-old Dutchman was confirmed as the next manager of the club, with the Ajax boss set to take over in the summer. Now, the focus is on the other changes, seemingly in the direction of transfer targets.

Ralf Rangnick recently suggested the club may need more than three or four players to start a squad rebuild, which is an indication Manchester United may be embarking upon a huge window ahead.

Central defence would be a key area of concern for ten Hag and Manchester United heading into the summer. And the name of Ajax star Jurrien Timber has been doing the rounds as a potential target, with the Red Devils reportedly interested in the young defender.

Recent reports have suggested that ten Hag wants to bring the Dutch defender along with him to Manchester United, but Timber has suggested he would be happy to stay put at Ajax for the immediate future.

When quizzed about Manchester United’s interest in signing him, Timber said (h/t Manchester Evening News), “I’m good at Ajax. I can still learn a lot, especially if we continue to play in the Champions League.”

The Ajax defender also praised ten Hag and the work he has done at the club, saying, “He deserves it. Ten Hag has been very important to me personally. Under him, I became the footballer, the man I am today. The coach talked to me a lot. He’s been very critical, in a good, constructive way. I won’t forget it any time soon.”

It remains to be seen if the player follows suit in the summer if Manchester United go to Ajax with a suitable offer. He could look for a move and continue his development under ten Hag.

At Ajax, Timber has become a key part of the team this season, making 27 Eredivisie appearances. The 20-year-old could come in as a future option for Manchester United and challenge established players like Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, who are currently struggling at the club.
