Real Madrid are reportedly set to rival Liverpool in the pursuit of Fulham prodigy Fabio Carvalho, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho on a free transfer in the summer window. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is also a top target for Premier League giants Liverpool.

Carvalho has established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe over the past six months. Enjoying his breakthrough campaign with Fulham, the teenager has shone brightly in the EFL Championship, racking up a tally of seven goals and four assists from just 18 outings, helping the Cottagers to the top of the table in the English second division.

Carvalho’s time at Craven Cottage could soon come to an end though, as his contract with Fulham expires at the end of the campaign. His situation has alerted many top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool and Real Madrid, who are now vying to sign him up on a Bosman move in the summer.

Liverpool have been monitoring Carvalho’s situation for a while now. The Reds even made a play to sign him up late on the transfer deadline day and reached an agreement with Fulham and completed a medical. However, they ran out of time to submit the required paperwork, as a result of which the attacking midfielder ended up staying put at Fulham.

But, Liverpool remain very much keen on signing Carvalho and are already working towards striking an agreement to secure his services in the summer. There are question marks over the futures of Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino and Naby Keita. So, a player like the former England Under-18 international, who can play in multiple positions, can be a handy acquisition for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, Liverpool will now have to shake off competition from La Liga giants Real Madrid. The Merengues have shown a strong interest in the teenager for a few months now and are prepared to act on it in the summer after seeing his move to Liverpool collapse in the January window.

With Gareth Bale and Isco set to depart at the end of the season and Eden Hazard staring at an uncertain future, Carvalho can be an intelligent purchase for Real Madrid due to his vast potential and versatile nature.

Apart from Liverpool and Real Madrid, Chelsea, too, are in the mix to sign the English attacking midfielder, potentially setting up an intriguing transfer battle for the summer.
