Chelsea could play spoilsport in Liverpool’s pursuit of Fulham sensation Fabio Carvalho.

According to Goal, European champions Chelsea are in the race for Liverpool target Fabio Carvalho, who will leave Fulham in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old has been one of the Cottagers’ standout players and has helped them to the top of the Championship table. One of the best young talents on the continent, Carvalho’s performances have not gone unnoticed.

Liverpool came close to landing the youngster in the January transfer window. A move to Anfield appeared imminent, but the dreaded transfer deadline cut it short. With the deal between the Reds and Fulham not going through, the youngster can be considered fair game for now.

Chelsea are one of the teams that could land a killer blow to Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Blues continue to keep tabs on Carvalho but are yet to move to land him. Chelsea have seen several young players get handed a major opportunity to feature in the first XI, and they could roll out the red carpet for the English starlet to kick on his development.

Just 19, the attacking midfielder has shown himself to be a man of various talents at Craven Cottage. A fantastic dribbler, Carvalho has demonstrated he can leave his man for dead and link up with his teammates in a fluid front line. This is good news for Chelsea, who have lacked the cutting edge in attack this season.

Apart from the Blues, Bayern Munich and Borrusia Dortmund are also interested. With his contract at Fulham set to expire in the summer, the Championship leaders risk losing their young maverick to a foreign club for a token amount. It is in their best interests to reach an agreement with a domestic team or risk going through a tribunal.

This could make Chelsea Liverpool’s biggest threat. The Reds remain keen to sign the player and continue pursuing him. Klopp’s side have shown themselves to be ruthless adversaries in the transfer market, and clearly, they seem intent on landing Carvalho.

The youngster has shown that he has it in him to become a major player in the years to come. Liverpool can certainly offer him the path to do just that. Former Fulham ace Harvey Elliott has already thrived at Anfield. More so, the Reds have in recent windows sold Harry Wilson and loaned Neco Williams to the Cottagers. It would not be amiss to assume there is some goodwill between both clubs.

With the player having agreed to move to Liverpool in January, it is fair to assume that the transfer battle is the Reds’ to lose. Whether Liverpool will see their usually effective recruitment team do their bit or be trumped by Chelsea remains to be seen.
