Arsenal have reportedly joined a host of big clubs from England and Spain in the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer.

According to Football London, Arsenal have joined the race for Aurelien Tchouameni, who could leave AS Monaco in the summer transfer window. The big stumbling block for the Gunners could be the competition from English rivals and Spanish giants Real Madrid, who remain keen on signing the 22-year-old French international.

Arsenal finished the transfer window without making any major signings to strengthen their squad. They did bring in Matt Turner and Auston Trusty, both of whom will only join in the summer. Fans kept urging the club to sign players right till the end of the window, but the Gunners ended the window dry.

They did let several of their fringe stars leave the club in a bid to cut down their wage bill. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona was the most notable exit from the group, along with Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Calum Chambers and Folarin Balogun.

With the wage bill reduced significantly, Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer window and bring in several players to strengthen the squad as per Mikel Arteta’s specifications. A striker and a defensive midfielder is high on their agenda, as the January links to Douglas Luiz and Dusan Vlahovic indicated.

The Gunners have now reportedly entered the race to sign Monaco’s highly-rated defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. The 22-year-old French international has widespread interest from clubs across England and Europe, although some have suggested he could be a good piece of business for Arsenal.

The 22-year-old was expected to move clubs last summer, but he decided to stay put at AS Monaco. The Ligue 1 club will demand at least a reported £68 million for the 22-year-old French international, who has a contract with the club until 2024.

Arsenal will be looking to land the young defensive midfielder in the summer, although they face stiff competition from Liverpool, Chelsea and a few Spanish clubs. Real Madrid are considered the favourites to land the midfielder, as the La Liga giants embark on signing highly-rated players, with the Frenchman firmly in their plans.

As for Arsenal, it could be a difficult transfer to complete, although the Gunners could have a good chance if they qualify for the Champions League next season. Arteta will surely be keen on signing the player who is considered among the rising stars in football, but the north Londoners could miss out on the Frenchman due to the intense competition.
