Tottenham are reportedly preparing a late bid for Arsenal target Douglas Luiz, although Aston Villa are expected to remain firm on keeping hold of him.

According to Daily Mail, Tottenham could make a late offer worth £32 million to sign Douglas Luiz, although they face competition from Arsenal for the Brazilian. Aston Villa might not be open to sanctioning a late sale. However, amid his uncertain contract situation, anything is possible.

Tottenham are making amends in the transfer window after being rejected by two of their primary targets last week. Adama Traore made a U-turn by joining Barcelona on loan, while Luis Diaz became Liverpool’s newest signing instead of joining the north Londoners.

Spurs are understandably in some panic as the transfer deadline closes in on them. Antonio Conte is keen for the club to make quality signings before the end of the month, with the Tottenham manager needing reinforcements in several areas of the squad.

While they are on the verge of signing Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus on loan, Spurs might still dip into the transfer market before deadline day. Tottenham are now weighing up an offer for Arsenal target Douglas Luiz, who could be on the move before Monday.

Arsenal have been interested in Luiz this month and are still in line to make an offer late in the window. However, with Tottenham looking closely at the situation, the report suggests a possible £32 million bid could be on the cards for Aston Villa to consider.

After rejecting a few proposals close to that figure in the last week, the Villans might be either suggesting the midfielder is not for sale or could go at a higher price. Aston Villa have been chasing Rodrigo Bentancur this month, which may have been a way to replace Luiz.

With the Midlands club now reportedly out of the race for the Juventus midfielder, Luiz will likely remain at Villa Park for the rest of the season. The Brazilian only has 18 months left on his deal, which might force Villa to cash in now when his value is high.

Tottenham’s offer could let them reconsider their stance, which might decide the Brazilian’s future one way or another. Spurs are also on the verge of allowing two of their midfielders to leave the club, with Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele likely to depart for Ligue 1.

They might be looking at Luiz as a solid replacement for those players, as Conte could be keen on the Brazilian’s qualities in midfield. If Arsenal come up with a late offer, the race to sign him could get tricky, probably giving Luiz a headache over which club to choose.

As things stand, Villa are not in the market for a new midfielder, which could force them to keep hold of Luiz. In the summer, depending on his contractual situation, the Midlands club could decide on his departure when surely more clubs might be interested.
