Barcelona and Liverpool will reportedly be vying for the signature of 19-year-old Fulham prodigy Fabio Carvalho in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fabio Carvalho is generating interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Barcelona and Liverpool are keen on signing the prodigious 19-year-old attacker on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Fabio Carvalho has come a long way since joining the Fulham youth setup from Banham FC in 2014. The teenage prodigy progressed through the ranks rapidly in the Cottagers’ academy before breaking into the first-team squad last season. And after showing a lot of promise in 2020/21, the youngster has stepped his game up a notch this term.

The 19-year-old has been instrumental in Fulham’s bid to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, racking up seven goals and four assists in 18 outings in the EFL Championship. But the Londoners are in a spot of bother over Carvalho’s future, as he is in the final six months of his contract and unlikely to sign a renewal. The player’s situation has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and Liverpool keen on signing him.

Barcelona’s links with Carvalho come in the wake of their recent outlook of giving opportunities to prodigious youngsters at an early age. The likes of Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez are some of the regulars to have benefitted from the Blaugrana’s willingness to pave the path for players in their teens, with several young stars also on their radar.

The Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their attack this year while adding new dimensions to their offensive unit. And Carvalho has emerged as a viable target, considering he has shown a lot of promise since being handed his first-team debut at Fulham, essentially becoming an option to replace Memphis Depay. But Barcelona will need to fend off competition from Liverpool to sign him.

The interest from Liverpool could be stemming from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino. While the duo will likely stay put at Anfield beyond the January transfer window, Liverpool could sell them in the summer, thereby necessitating the addition of an attacker despite the impending arrival of Luis Diaz.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane entering the final 18 months of their respective contracts, Liverpool might need to replace either player. The Reds were even preparing a bid to sign Carvalho this month but will likely move for him in the summer. Several other clubs have also been linked with the 19-year-old, so Barcelona and Liverpool will have a battle on their hands if he runs down his Fulham contract.
