Real Madrid reportedly have no intention of letting Luka Jovic depart the Santiago Bernabeu this month, handing Arsenal a major blow in his pursuit.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Premier League heavyweights Arsenal have been dealt with a major blow in pursuit of Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic. The Spanish giants will not be parting ways with the Serbian striker this month.

Luka Jovic arrived at Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019 amid a lot of hype and fanfare surrounding him. But in the last two and a half years, the 24-year-old has largely flattered to deceive, failing to make the desired impact whenever given the opportunity to shine.

The Serbian international has managed a paltry tally of just three goals and four assists in 47 appearances for Real Madrid. But despite his shortcomings at the Santiago Bernabeu, Jovic has no shortage of suitors vying for his signature, with Arsenal among the clubs keen on signing him.

The interest from Arsenal stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah, both of whom could depart the Emirates this month. While Aubameyang has no future at Arsenal after being stripped of the club captaincy and banished from the first-team picture, Nketiah is keen on embarking on a new adventure after failing to secure regular game-time.

Arsenal’s priority target was Dusan Vlahovic, and they were even prepared to offer a considerable sum to secure his services. But the Serb prefers joining Juventus and is on the verge of completing a move to the Allianz Stadium before the transfer deadline. As a result, Jovic has emerged as a viable alternative for the Gunners, who are plotting a loan move for the Real Madrid striker.

But Arsenal’s pursuit of Jovic is unlikely to bear any fruit, with Real Madrid having no interest in parting with the Serb despite his struggles. The Merengues’ stance does make sense, as Karim Benzema recently picked up an injury that could sideline him for some time, leaving Jovic next in line to assume the duties of spearheading the attack.

As for Arsenal, the north Londoners will have to set their sights elsewhere in search of a striker. They have been linked with plenty of players, with former Real Madrid forward Raul De Tomas also on their radar. But one thing that appears to be certain is that Jovic will not be joining Arsenal this month.
