Alexander Isak is reportedly among the strikers emerging on the radar of Arsenal as we head towards the final few days of the transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Alexander Isak remains one of Arsenal’s top targets in their bid to add a new striker in the winter transfer window. The Premier League giants are poised to make a move for the 22-year-old Real Sociedad striker, who has been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past, but nothing has ever really materialised.

Arsenal are hoping to change that in the final week of January, with Mikel Arteta seemingly desperate to upgrade his options in the goalscoring department. The Spaniard already has no less than three options in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

However, Aubameyang has fallen out of favour on and off the pitch. It has led to speculation over his long-term future at the club amid interest from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. Nketiah is not highly rated either, with many fans favouring his exit in the current transfer window.

Lacazette, to that end, has remained a key figure in the Arsenal frontline, but that is largely due to a lack of an alternative. In addition, the Frenchman’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, with the player even courted by Barcelona, among many others.

Arteta hopes to resolve this issue by targeting Isak in the final week of January. The Real Sociedad forward is regarded as one of the most gifted young strikers in Europe, having netted 41 goals in just 114 competitive matches for his club. He made an impression during the 2020/21 campaign, in particular, racking up 17 goals in La Liga before going on to star for Sweden in Euro 2020.

With just four goals, the former Dortmund starlet has struggled to maintain his goalscoring form this season. But that has not deterred Arsenal, who are slowly starting to lose their grip in the race for a top-four finish.

However, after a spending spree in the summer, the Gunners are in a difficult financial position and are likely to be priced out of a move for Isak. The Real Sociedad striker reportedly has a £76 million release clause, with Real Madrid also involved in the equation.

Arteta has no shortage of options, though, having targeted a host of other attacking talents across Europe, including Dusan Vlahovic, Raul De Tomas and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Even a loan move for Luka Jovic could be on the table, though it remains to be seen whether La Liga giants Real Madrid will be keen on offloading the Serb.
