Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as a potential destination for Jordan Veretout, with AS Roma pondering a sale.

According to Tuttosport, as cited by Sport Witness, AS Roma are considering offloading a few players in the last few days of the January transfer window in an attempt to land new players. While Amadou Diawara is the favourite to leave the club, Jordan Veretout is also in contention for a potential exit, with Tottenham Hotspur emerging as a potential suitor.

The report suggests the Premier League giants have yet to make any official attempt to sign Veretout. But Roma are likely to be convinced to offload the French international should Tottenham show serious interest.

Formerly of Aston Villa, Veretout has become an integral figure in the Roma midfield since joining the club in 2019. In just two and a half years, the 28-year-old midfielder has notched up over 100 competitive appearances, forming an excellent partnership alongside the likes of Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante.

A central midfielder by trade, Veretout has made an impression with his dynamism and work ethic in the middle of the park. The 28-year-old is equally effective when it comes to winning possession in midfield.

His all-round game has caught the attention of multiple clubs across Europe. Tottenham are no exception as new coach Antonio Conte looks to add more competition for Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Not to mention, other first-team options, including Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli, are facing an uncertain future at the club, with the latter notably being linked with a move to Everton. It has accentuated the need for a new midfielder that can help improve the overall depth of the Tottenham squad.

Veretout might be an ideal option given his past exposure to the Premier League. With over 150 appearances in Serie A, the French international has plenty of experience at the highest level of football and has what it takes to become a potential asset for the Tottenham midfield in the years to come.

Incidentally, one of Roma’s top targets in January is Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. So it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can work out a swap deal in these remaining days before the transfer window slams to a shut.
